Hydrogen Road Tour Visited Air Products' Headquarters Part of Cross-Country Tour of Cars Fueled With Hydrogen
Air Products is the main hydrogen fuel provider. Cars powered by hydrogen are making their way across the USA. And they stopped at the corporate headquarters of Air Products—the main supplier of hydrogen for the tour.
Air Products' Hydrogen Fueling Station, Trexlertown, Pennsylvania
Hydrogen vehicles refueled at Air Products' headquarters in Trexlertown, Pennsylvania on August 13. The U.S. Department of Transportation and the California Fuel Cell Partnership, with the support of more than a dozen other national and state organizations, are sponsoring a cross-country tour of cars powered by hydrogen fuel cells or hydrogen gas. The cavalcade started at Portland, Maine on August 10 and will end in Los Angeles, California on August 23. En route, the teams from several vehicle manufacturers will stop at 33 locations in 19 states. One of the stops was the Air Products campus in Trexlertown on Wednesday, August 13.
The tour demonstrates commitment for and progress toward commercially viable, emissions-free hydrogen-powered vehicles. Most of the vehicles run with hydrogen fuel cells that convert hydrogen gas into electric power. Manufacturers include Daimler, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, General Motors, Volkswagen, Kia, BMW, and Toyota.
Air Products is participating in the tour as the supplier of hydrogen for most of the vehicles at Trexlertown. At several locations, Air Products has existing hydrogen fueling stations where the vehicles will refuel. For about half of the stops, the company's mobile hydrogen fueler will be brought in to fuel the vehicles. The event offers a national stage to showcase Air Products' industry-leading hydrogen fueling expertise.
Air Products is the global leader in hydrogen fueling infrastructure and technology. We've installed over 85 fueling stations in 15 countries to supply cars, buses, forklifts, and even submarines in five countries. Most of the hydrogen is delivered to fueling stations via truck; some is generated on-site through natural gas reforming, electrolysis, and wind and solar power. Air Products is also supplying the hydrogen to power buses that shuttle athletes and visitors at the Olympic Games in Beijing this month.
